Intern Spotlight!
Tell us a little about yourself. (Name, school, program you’e studying, where you’re from.)
My name is Maria Evelyn Salvador. By the way I use Maria for work, school, and other official stuff. My family and close friends call me Eva for short. I am attending Salem College and I am majoring in Design with a concentration on residential design. I was born in Mexico, but I was raised in Salem, OR. I moved to North Carolina when I was fifteen years old.
What made you interested in interior design?
I knew I wanted to do something in the art field, but I wasn’t sure what. I became interested in Interior Design watching HGTV. I read and informed myself more about the field and I knew I wanted to do this. My favorite part is the final, where you see your vision come to life!
Who are some of your design icons?
My design icons are Frank Lloyd Wright and Vanessa Deleon. Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture is beautiful. My favorite would have to be Falling Water because it is a beautiful design. The house incorporated with nature around is amazing! Vanessa is a very sure of herself designer and her style is a combination of glam with minimalistic elements.
Describe your design aesthetic.
My design aesthetic is modern contemporary. I like nice clean lines with some pop of color, whether it is a wall, carpet, decorative pillows, accessories, and lighting. Though while interning here at Vivid Interiors, it has changed a little. As far as using more color, pattered fabrics, fun light fixtures, and art work. I am glad that Gina and Laura have helped me to look at the bigger picture when it comes to putting a space together.
What do you do at Vivid Interiors?
I have helped with putting together digital boards for clients, searched for furniture online, rearranged furniture and accessories around the shop, and helped put together a pricing budget for Vivid.
What do you like best about interning at Vivid?
I like the atmosphere! There is music playing all the time, which helps with coming up with ideas. I like learning about the business of interior design. I took a class on Business Practices in Design, but actually seeing what Laura and Gina do is eye opening. They work hard and make sure that everything is done right. I like that about them, work ethic. They are so much fun as well! They care about their interns and their approach to teaching on how to put a space together is helpful. I have learned from them on areas where I am weak as a designer, which is usage of color and patterns.
Who are your favorite musicians?
My favorite musicians are OneRepublic, Linkin Park, Hands Like Houses, Reik, Jesse and Joy, and Camila
Favorite drink?
My favorite drink is a margarita! I love it!
What is your sign?
I am an Aries
If you could invite anyone to dinner (living or dead) who would it be?
I would invite Frida Kahlo because I really love her strength and how she put that into her paintings. She turned her accident into inspiration for her paintings.
Tell us three words that describe you.
Three words that would describe me would be Shy, Nice, and impatient!
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to hopefully be working for a firm and keep learning about the business.
