Intern Spotlight!

Tell us a little about yourself. (Name, school, program you’re studying, where you’re from.

My name is Katie Hutchinson, I’m a junior Graphic Design Technology student at NC A&T State University, and I’m from Raleigh,  NC.

What made you interested in interior design/graphic design?

I’ve always liked creating visual art, and music. So I figured, if not go to college for music then why not for art? After switching my major a few times, I finally realized how much better it woul d be for me to choose a subject that I’ve always loved.

Who are some of your design icons?

Some of my favorites are Paul Rand, Paula Scher, Varnette Honeywood, and Kerry James Marshall.

Describe your design aesthetic.

I’m just discovering my design style is finding the perfect mix of black and whites, bold primary colors, and pastels. I’m also really into typography and illustration, so anything that incorporates an interesting font or cartoons is always fun for me.

What do you do at Vivid Interiors?

As an intern, I’ll be helping revamp Vivid Interiors website, and even make flyers for events like First Friday!

What do you like best about interning at Vivid?

Friendly bosses! A beautiful work space that always has nice music and flexible hours. Also, the opportunity to learn about a different channel of design!

Who are your favorite musicians?

Lianne La Havas, Thundercat, Earth Wind & Fire, Mos Def, Bobby Caldwell, Stevie Wonder and Little Dragon.

Favorite drink?

I just turned 21, so I’m still experimenting! But for right now, I just tried a beer called Boulevard Lemon Ginger Radler that was amazing.

What is your sign?

Pisces!

If you could invite anyone to dinner (living or dead) who would it be?

I’d love to go to dinner with Prince, just to talk to him about music. I’m sure he’d have some crazy insights on the ins and outs of the industry.

Goofy, expressive, and romantic.

What are your plans after graduation?

In a perfect world, I’d like to get a job in a bigger city, somewhere in the boroughs of New York or Chicago. Work for a design company or a magazine, while in the meantime working on my music.
